Yesterday, several transfer reports stated that our club is willing to cough up as much as £100 million in transfer fees and wages to sign the tricky Argentine winger, Angel Di Maria.
Di Maria is currently surplus to requirements at his club, Real Madrid, and, to me, it’s a mystery how such a fine player cannot be an automatic starter at his club.
Last season, and even in this summer’s World Cup, Di Maria has proven himself amongst the finest players in the world. His pace, his skill, his tracking back and his sheer determination to succeed truly separates him from other players, and for these reasons, I’d really like it if Louis Van Gaal and our board are able to negotiate a transfer for the 26-year-old.
Furthermore, he would be a perfect fit for Louis Van Gaal’s vacated wing-back position. Luke Shaw has nothing on this guy, and what’s more, Di Maria is probable even capable of playing on the right hand side of midfield. He actually played on the right for the most part under Jose Mourinho, with Cristiano Ronaldo playing on the left wing.
If we manage to sign Di Maria, we could hand him the number 7 jersey and, to be honest, he may end up being the best number seven we’ve ever had… and that’s saying something.
