The second leg of the CAF Champions League fixture between Kaizer Chiefs and AS Vita on Saturday night brought out the worst in everyone. The match referee and his assistants were guilty of horrendous officiating, whilst the AS Vita players were guilty of un-sportsman like behaviour. Unfortunately (and it really nauseates me to say and admit this) some of the Chiefs supporters (or so called) were guilty of the worst crime of the night, and that was conduct unbecoming of true Kaizer Chiefs supporters!
The manner in which some of the fans reacted by invading the pitch at the final whistle was downright pitiful! What happened was in direct conflict of everything our beloved club stands and strives towards. Chiefs is a club that prides itself with prestige and glamour and there is no room for hooliganism.
I will be the first to admit that there is nothing more exasperating than watching your team being deprived of fair officiating and being subjected to dirty play by the AS Vita players, but I guess this is Africa.
The so called unruly Chiefs supporters have done more harm than good, because now the attention is no longer on the lousy officiating instead CAF will divert their focus on delivering discipline to KC for the behaviour of their fans, whilst the real hooligans (AS Vita) come out of this smelling like roses.
What a shame!
