Credit Where It’s Due

Instead of coming up with excuses, I think it’s fair to give credit where it’s due, after Mamelodi Sundowns lost to Ajax Cape Town last night.

It’s never easy for visiting teams to come away with three points when they visit Cape Town, more so when you look at the wet conditions. Playing against a big team, the Urban Warriors charges were motivated to impress because one day they’d like to see themselves at teams like Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs. They kept their shape nicely and Travis Graham took his goal well. We cannot fault the referee or anything, we just didn’t come to the party.

We kept on pumping balls upfront for Mame Niang and the young Ajax central defenders dealt well with him. We need to go back to playing the Sundowns style of play in order to get positive results. Well done to Ajax, we shall meet again in the second round of the season... in our home ground!

Where did Sundowns get it wrong?
