Secret Agent Weighs In On Chiefs’ Zungu Chase

Bongani Zungu, who is a free agent in six months, might “strongly consider” joining Kaizer Chiefs, our resident secret agent has argued.

Soccer Laduma reported in the latest edition that the midfielder is being tracked by Amakhosi now that he is at the end of his spell at French club Amiens.

He has made it clear he wants to leave!

“Zungu will become a free agent in June 2022 and Amiens will not be able to hold on to him, as the relationship has clearly gone sour. The recent comments by the Amiens coach about Zungu’s physical condition has made things worse,” the secret agent commented.

“Once comments are made public like this, a player can find it very hard to bounce back and find a club, as reputations become damaged. In the case of Zungu, it’s a double whammy, as he got himself in hot water with Rangers, for his actions breaking COVID rules, which on the back of playing performances that were not acceptable to the club and fans, saw his time at Rangers come to an abrupt stop.”

Playing abroad should also remain an option.

“He may have options to stay in Europe, but when you look at his last two seasons – and this season he’ll probably play zero football – his agent will find it hard to get him something good. He could end up in a league like Turkey for example, sounds good on paper, but many clubs have financial issues there, so that’s probably the last thing he wants after his last two years,” the secret agent continued.

“That brings us to the local options in the PSL, where rumours are that Chiefs have made an approach! It’s probably a realistically option for him and one I would think he will consider strongly. Sundowns may show their hand also.”

But the 29-year-old hasn’t played since April when he was on loan at Rangers, and he will be quite rusty if things don’t change between now and the end of his contract on June 30.

“From Chiefs’ perspective you would hope that they will do their due diligence – to bring in a Zungu, they will need him a physically conditioned and ultra-professional as it will be a significant investment for them. Ultimately it’s up to the player to conduct himself correctly, if he does that, there is no reason why he cannot be a success,” the secret agent concluded.
