It was all smiles by the end of the night in Cape Town as Kaizer Chiefs walloped Stellenbosch 4-0 in the Absa Premiership, but two senior players had to assert their authority early in the game.
Take a look at some dramatic images in the gallery above!
The Glamour Boys took an early lead at Cape Town Stadium through Siyabonga Ngezana after he nodded home Lebogang Manyama’s cross to open the scoring, but it was his celebration that caused problems for the young defender…
On scoring his first goal in more than a year, the 22-year-old ripped off his shirt and ran to the camera to celebrate, something that then warranted a yellow card, despite it being inside the first 10 minutes of the game with plenty still to play for.
Captain on the day, Willard Katsande, and fellow senior player, Bernard Parker, were both quick to reprimand the centre back and appeared to be asking him why he was doing something that he knew he would get booking, with Parker seeming to tell Ngezana to use his head.
Aside from the fact that Ngezana’s emotional decision put him at risk of a red card later in the game, there will be have been extra frustrations given the fact that Katsande and Daniel Akpeyi missed their doomed Telkom Knockout semi-final due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
Do you think Katsande and Parker were right to reprimand Ngezana? You can check it out below:
