AmaZulu are desperately trying to hold on to a player who’s move to Kaizer Chiefs appears imminent, the Siya crew can reveal.
Soccer Laduma reported last month that Amakhosi had made an approach for Usuthu leftback Sibusiso Mabiliso, though it was not clear at the time whether talks between the two parties had been successful.
His current club has also confirmed that the 22-year-old junior international is in the final weeks of his contract, but they are trying to hold on to him!
“His contract ends next month and we have tabled an offer,” AmaZulu chairman Sandile Zungu told the Siya crew this week.
Asked whether the defender had put pen to paper before his existing deal expires at the end of the season on June 30, the Usuthu boss was diplomatic.
“No, but he’s not rejected it. He’s not signed it either,” said Zungu, adding that saying Mabiliso was “considering” the terms, would be the best way to put it.
Chiefs can finally sign new players next season with their FIFA ban being lifted as of July 1, and it’s understood Mabiliso is on their wanted list and has already been approached.
Given that he is in the final weeks of his Usuthu stint, the player is allowed to agree to a pre-contract with a club of his choice, though Premier Soccer League rules do insist that the interested party is obliged to inform their rivals of their intentions.
It remains to be seen whether Mabiliso will be convinced to stay at the Durban club, but indications are that he has set his sights on a move to Gauteng.
