Chiefs Coach: We Should Not Be Happy

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Arthur Zwane feels they should not be happy to just merely qualify for the top eight, as Amakhosi need to be winning the league title.

Amakhosi managed to book themselves a spot in next season’s MTN8 by finishing in eighth spot, thanks to a 1-0 victory on the final day of the season against rookies TS Galaxy.

The Soweto giants collected six points in their final two matches of the season to ensure they at least finish a difficult campaign on a positive note. It was only the second time this season Amakhosi registered two wins on the trot.

Zwane, however, says merely finishing in the top eight is something Amakhosi should not be happy about.

“We all know that we had a very difficult season, but we anticipated it for the fact that we could not bring in new players. When things were not going well, we had to try keep everybody happy in terms of positiveness in the camp and keeping the players fresh. But we knew that, at some point, it was going to catch up with us.

"In the middle of the season, you could see that we were battling, and we drop points that we shouldn’t habe. In some games we scored first and the opposition teams equalised and got the winner and some we drew.

“And by the standards of Kaizer Chiefs, we shouldn’t have been in a situation we are in right now. We shouldn’t be happy that we have qualified for top eight. We should be happy that we are winning the league. But some of the things happen for a reason and I think this is one season where we have learnt a lot. There’s a lot of positive too, as we have qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League, with the hope that we can go to the final and win it for the country.”
