The Siya crew broke the news in edition 1221 of Soccer Laduma that Baroka FC defender Cheslyn Jampies has been offered to Kaizer Chiefs as a possible addition to their squad next season.
Currently, Chiefs have Philani Zulu as their first choice left back option, although he has been linked with an exit from the club. They also have the likes of Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Yagan Sasman - although game-time has proven hard to come by for both players in Gavin Hunt’s side this campaign and have also been linked with moves away from the club.
As reported by the crew, Sifiso Hlanti, who is currently on the books of Swallows FC is expected to make his way to Chiefs at the end of the current campaign and it is expected to be Gavin Hunt’s first choice left back in the new campaign, with the duo having previously worked together at the now-defunct Bidvest Wits.
While Jampies is a surprise option, Hunt is believed to be a big fan of the player’s ability and while he won’t be the club’s first choice, could prove to be a capable backup option if needed. At 31, Jampies is an experienced campaigner who is technically sound and could prove useful to Hunt, particularly from set pieces, which are an integral part of Hunt’s team makeup.
Hunt used the same strategy more than once in the past and more recently where he signed the likes of Keegan Richie, Vuyo Mere and Lehlohonolo Nonyane at Wits.
There are two however two stumbling blocks to this move.
Jampies penned a three-year deal with Bakgaga last year, meaning that Chiefs would have to negotiate a transfer fee with Baroka if they are to land the defender’s services.
In addition, Hunt’s future at Chiefs remains uncertain at this point and any possible move would depend on whether the 56-year-old continues at Naturena beyond the current campaign.
