Possible Chiefs XI V Sundowns Amid Forced Changes

Kaizer Chiefs are set to make forced changes to their starting XI v Mamelodi Sundowns, but has Ernst Middendorp hinted at how they might set up?

The Glamour Boys will battle it out with Masandawana for top spot in the Absa Premiership on Sunday, and a win over their title rivals will boost their title credentials and send them clear at the league’s summit.

Chiefs are unlikely to have Bernard Parker (ankle) and Kearyn Baccus (ankle/knee) available after they sustained injuries in the Telkom Knockout win over Cape Town City, while Middendorp also revealed that Itumeleng Khune would not play again in October after he picked up a groin injury.

With that in mind, Maluleka (who replaced Baccus last weekend) is expected back in the XI against Pitso Mosimane’s reigning champions, while Samir Nurkovic could be in line to return after his goal got the team back on level terms in the Mother City.

On top of that, the German has spoken of potentially starting Nurkovic, Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat together at some point – could this weekend be the time to do so following Parker’s injury?

Regarding a possible three-pronged attack after the City win, Middendorp told the media, “I said it before, Samir is an exceptional player. He was out for three weeks…not really able to use his heading ability. He used it for the first time. On the other side, Castro scored three goals in his fantastic 45 minutes last Saturday against Sundowns. Why not? Possibly Leonardo, Samir and Khama Billiat. We will see.”

Which XI do you think Middendorp should go for when they line up against Sundowns on Sunday afternoon?
