The Siya crew reported last week that Kaizer Chiefs had opened talks with Swallows over the possible transfer of Ruzaigh Gamildien.
Amakhosi are preparing a clear-out of several players who are both out of contract and surplus to coach Gavin Hunt’s plans, and the Dube Birds striker has emerged as one of their surprise targets for next season.
Njabulo Ngcobo, a contender for the Defender of the Season, has impressed in his maiden campaign at Swallows and he, too, is being targeted by Chiefs.
But what will the Dube Birds get out of the supposed deal?
The Siya crew has reported previously that Swallows are keen to turn midfielder Given Thibedi’s loan move from Chiefs into a permanent one and have been in talks with the Glamour Boys to make this happen.
He could be part of a swap deal, with Gamildien going the other way, although insiders have suggested there could be cash involved as well.
Amakhosi have some bargaining power in the sense that they are prepared to offload a lot of their senior players and a few of them could get a fresh start at Swallows, albeit perhaps without the glamour that comes with playing for Chiefs.
In this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma, the Siya crew also reported that Gamildien is being pursued by the club – not coach Hunt, who faces an uncertain future if results do not quickly turn in his favour between now and the end of the season.
Hunt has already been allowed to sign four of the players he has previously worked with at Bidvest Wits, a club that was sold in June last year and paved the way for his long awaited move to one of the Big Three clubs in SA.
Brandon Petersen, Sifiso Hlanti, Phathutshedzo Nange and Kgaogelo Sekgota will all join Chiefs next season when the FIFA ban is lifted and more arrivals are expected.
Gamildien could very well be one of them and Chiefs will have to make it worthwhile for Swallows to lure their top striker to Naturena.
