Ernst Middendorp must be getting tired of sounding like a stuck record after every Kaizer Chiefs Absa Premiership clash.
On Saturday, the German was again predictable in his post-match remarks following Amakhosi’s umpteenth draw – this time against strugglers Free State Stars.
“I am looking into the performance and I think we always start the same way, panicking, erratic, making individual mistakes – we have do do better. We have, at the moment, a number of players not at their best,” Middendorp said.
So…what’s he going to do about it?
Chiefs have two season-defining matches over the next two weekends – their away game to Chippa United on Saturday, which, if they lose and results elsewhere do not go their way, will mean they miss out on the Top 8. They will then face TS Galaxy in the final of the Nedbank Cup a week later.
Middendorp has probably experimented enough and with the transfer window slowly approaching, the coach is believed to have already made requests for fresh faces next season. Whether he gets his targets is another thing. The coach has already said Chiefs have a number of players who are underperforming and one of the ways to fix that is to ship them out and bring new ones in.
And the coach has dropped hints that this would be his preferred solution, too, when he said recently that if Amakhosi can do their business early and get their targets during the window, then they can possibly be title challengers again.
