Important advice has been offered to Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt as he and his technical team attempt to improve the team’s form this season.
Chiefs have had a disappointing start to the 2020/21 season and inconsistent results have been a concern in the team’s league campaign.
The team is currently in 10th place on the DStv Premeirship standings after 17 fixtures, having won only four matches.
Former Chiefs coach, Sergio dos Santos, has advised Hunt to be consistent in his selection of line-ups.
“Look, from the beginning I was of the opinion that Gavin is the right man to take over the reins of Kaizer Chiefs. I mean, his record is very good. He seems to get the best out of his players. I never had any doubts in my mind that maybe this was the right club at the right time for Gavin,” said Dos Santos.
“Unfortunately, injuries to key players as well as the fact that he couldn’t sign any new players became quite a bit of an obstacle. They have been struggling since the start, and obviously because they have been struggling, Gavin continues to change the team almost on a weekly basis to try and get the right balance. I think that maybe he should change that approach. Maybe he should look at his squad and say, for example, ‘Who are the top 15 or 16 players that I’ve got here?’ He should give those players an opportunity to play three games on the trot. He should give them vote of confidence to show what they can do and see if they can form some cohesion. At the moment, the players are playing in patches. They play for five to 10 minutes and they look absolutely outstanding, and then for another 10 minutes after that they look useless. The team is struggling to come together as a unit,” he added.
Chiefs play in the CAF Champions League this evening against Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca in Burkina Faso.
