Chiefs & PSL Agree On Next Step In Case

Kaizer Chiefs and the Premier Soccer League have agreed on an arbitrator for their urgent case, with SAFA moving swiftly to appoint a senior counsel.

Chiefs were charged by the League for failure to honour two of their DStv Premiership fixtures in December, having cited a Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena and requesting that five games be postponed.

The appeal was denied, but the Glamour Boys did not show up for their game at home against Cape Town City and then away to Golden Arrows a few days later.

However, Chiefs did finally come out of isolation to play the final three fixtures of 2021 when they faced Sekhukhune United, Royal AM and Maritzburg United.

As reported by the Siya crew on Tuesday, the two parties had to decide between advocates Nassir Cassim, Hilton Epstein and William Mokhari for there to be a speedy resolution on the matter – it was referred to the mother body at Chiefs’ request.

It’s now been confirmed to the Siya crew that Cassim is the senior counsel that has been adopted and dates for the hearing will soon be agreed on.

Zola Majavu, the PSL prosecutor, set February 25 for the PSL disciplinary committee to reconvene, adding that “depending on the outcome of the arbitration, it may well be that the matter may not proceed in the current format. Should the arbitration be finalised before then, the prosecutor was directed to communicate with the DC members as to the next intended course of action, mindful of the fact that no one at this stage knows what the outcome of that referral to the arbitration may be.”

It's likely that the arbitration hearing will be next week, but there’s no confirmation of that just yet from SAFA.
