FIFA’s two-window transfer ban has not stopped Kaizer Chiefs having a wishlist ready for a shopping spree should they win the appeal.
It’s emerged now that the Glamour Boys have their eye on Bongokuhle Hlongwane, the 19-year-old striker who plays for Maritzburg United and recently made waves when he scored twice in an Absa Premiership clash in February.
Chiefs cannot register new players until the 2021 July/August transfer window, but have currently appealed their FIFA ban through the Court of Arbitration for Sport and are waiting to hear if the ban can be overturned.
In the meantime, Hlongwane is said to be a player that has impressed the club. The youngster was promoted to the Maritzburg first team exactly a year ago by coach Eric Tinkler and has so far made only nine senior team appearances.
Despite having to compete with Judas Moseamedi, Jeremy Brockie and Thabiso Kutumela for a place in the starting line-up, Hlongwane argued his case very well when he scored two goals in his sides’ 3-0 win over Stellenbosch FC three months ago.
He is a bright prospect, one Maritzburg would love to hold on to – but they are after all a selling club and a good offer from Naturena could see him move on.
The Siya crew will continue to monitor Chiefs’ interest in the forward.
