Kaizer Chiefs’ George Maluleka finds himself in an unenviable position at present, with his move to Mamelodi Sundowns pending and the league being brought to a complete halt.
The Glamour Boys confirmed earlier this month that the midfield man had informed them that he had signed a precontract with Masandawana, that will see him joining the Brazilians on July 1, when his Chiefs contract expires, and bringing his immediate future into jeopardy.
While the Siya crew has already been informed that, should he keep up the required standards in training and in terms of his attitude, Ernst Middendorp will continue to pick the 31-year-old until the 2019/20 campaign is over, but now the Coronavirus outbreak has added another challenge to the situation.
The Premier Soccer League are hoping to have the season wrapped up by the end of June, even with the delay caused by the COVID-19 virus, but should it extend further than that then players like Maluleka will find themselves in an unprecedented situation that will need advice from the league and also the South African Football Association.
On top of that, ‘Mido’ will be in a tough situation once football does resume, with fans likely to be quick to criticise any mistakes he makes and link them with his impending exit – even if he remains fully committed to Amakhosi until the final whistle has blown on this season.
Maluleka, however, will be desperate to add a league medal to his silverware collection with Chiefs before he leaves, even if it’s to the detriment of his future employers, and will be itching to get back on the field and prove that to the Amakhosi faithful whenever the league is back in action.
Do you think Maluleka should keep starting for Chiefs?
