Chiefs’ New 9: “Everything Disappears When The Whistle Blows…”
Kaizer Chiefs’ new number nine has described how it felt turning out for the Glamour Boys for the first time, talking of the ‘buzz’ surrounding Makhulong Stadium.
The 27-year-old Serbian played his part in Chiefs’ 3-2 win on the first day of the season, setting up Lebogang Manyama’s second goal as he got his first 90 minutes with the Amakhosi under his belt.
Nurkovic’s performance is expected to see him start once again tomorrow night against Black Leopards in Durban, and he admits that it was nice to get the first game out of the way – especially given the three points.
Speaking to Chiefs’ official website, the striker said, “I remember driving towards stadium… There was so much buzz in the area and it was good to see the supporters lining the streets. It made me eager to start the match. With me everything disappears when the referee blows the whistle. It becomes between me, the player and the win.
“First game is always tough. And as new a player it is important to start with a win. We deserved the win. We worked hard for it.”
Nurkovic had more shot assists (2) than any other Chiefs player in Makhulong, and none of his teammates won more ground duels than he did (4).
