How Nurković Joined Chiefs – Debut Looms
Samir Nurković was a signing straight out of left field when he was announced as Kaizer Chiefs’ new number 9, and he’s given some insight into how the move to Naturena happened.
The 27-year-old Serbian scored 23 goals for KFC Komárno in the Slovakian second division last season, a record that led to him being snapped up by the Amakhosi as they look to try and end their trophy drought in their 50th season.
Nurković, who could get his debut this weekend when they take on Highlands Park in Makhulong, assisted Chiefs goal in the 2-1 preseason defeat against Township Rollers last month, and will be itching to be a part of more goals for the club as he begins his new life in South Africa.
Speaking to Chiefs’ official website this week, the former attacker said that he didn’t think twice about agreeing to join the Amakhosi as the next step in his career.
Nurković explained, “The call came just after the end of the previous season in Slovakia. My agent called and said Chiefs was interested in my services. He told me one great team in South Africa is interested. I didn’t hesitate to accept the offer. I think it took me about the 10 minutes to accept the offer.”
“I want to give my best to help the team and looking forward to my first official match for Chiefs.”
Chiefs face Highlands at 15h00 on Sunday.
