Royal AM have wasted no time in identifying a Kaizer Chiefs departed player as a potential recruit, following his exit from Naturena the Siya crew has learnt.
This week, Chefs had the local football fraternity in a chokehold as they announced the departure of eight first team players and as well as goalkeeper coach, Lee Baxter who was part of those leaving the club.
Kearyn Baccus, Samir Nurkovic, Daniel Cardoso, Lazarous Kambole, Leonardo Castro, Lebogang Manyama, Daniel Akpeyi and Dumisani Zuma have all been released, while Anthony Akumu has been transfer-listed by the club.
Now, the latest news reaching the desk of the Siya crew is that Royal AM have identified veteran Nigerian shot-stopper Akpeyi as a transfer target for next season, although no formal approach has been made to the player’s camp just yet.
Royal AM were understood to be closing in on Nurkovic – but the crew has been informed that those talks have been put on ice with the player understood to have attracted interest from Europe.
The KZN outfit currently have Hugo Nyame and Marlon Heugh, Mondli Mpoto and Sipho Chaine as their goalkeeping options but with the club set to compete in the CAF Confederations Cup next season, they could look at bolstering their squad with the experience of Akpeyi who will be a free agent come June 30.
