The last time these two sides met, Swallows snatched it at the death, quite literally, with Joseph Mhlongo’s 86th minute strike sealing all three points for coach Brandon Truter’s side.
There is so much to play for in the reverse fixture for both teams. A win for Chiefs could see them back in contention for a top eight spot. Swallows meanwhile, will be looking to boost their chances of securing a CAF continental spot in just their first season back in the country’s top-flight.
Take a look at how Amakhosi could line up for the encounter:
Goalkeeper: Bruce Bvuma
Kaizer Chiefs have somewhat of a goalkeeper crisis with both regulars Itumeleng Khune and Daniel Akpeyi picking up injuries – though the club have confirmed that both players resumed training. This means that Bvuma, who got a rare start in Chiefs’ 2-1 loss to TTM, is likely to retain his place.
Defenders: Reeve Frosler, Siyabonga Ngezana, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Philani Zulu
With Eric Mathoho out injured, Hunt is expected to maintain the same back four from his last match, which saw Ngezana partnering Mphahlele centrally, while Frosler and Zulu are expected to fill the full back slots against the Birds.
Midfielders: Bernard Parker, Kearyn Baccus, Willard Katsande
This is perhaps Chiefs’ most inconsistent department this season, with Hunt chopping and changing to find the right combinations. Parker, who has been a mainstay in the Chiefs midfield is expected to keep his place, while Blom’s suspension could see a rare start for Katsande, who is likely to line up alongside Baccus in the heart of midfield.
Attackers: Samir Nurković, Lebogang Manyama, Khama Billiat
Billiat’s injury could well see either Happy Mashiane or Dumisani Zuma profit, although the former got the nod the last time out. Whoever gets selected for the match this afternoon is expected to partner the duo of Nurkovic and Manyama upfront as Chiefs go in search of their first win over Swallows this season.
