Under Fire Middendorp Comments On His Chiefs Future

Still reeling from the shock of failing to finish inside the Top Eight for the first time in 12 years, Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp faced the media on Wednesday morning and his immediate future was, naturally, discussed.

As reported in today’s edition of Soccer Laduma, it is understood the Amakhosi hierarchy is split on whether the German is the right man to take the club forward given recent results. Chiefs have not won any of their previous seven Absa Premiership matches, which contributed to missing out on the Top Eight.

But the Glamour Boys do have the Nedbank Cup final against TS Galaxy to look forward to on Saturday, though winning it might still not be enough to guarantee Middendorp sees out the remaining two years of his contract.

“Whatever you are asking me about the future, I have a contract here and our target is to win the cup,” he told journalists as reported by KickOff.com

“I am not looking at options and do me a favour, this is something I am definitely not answering. I am not going to talk about progress or the following months and what will happen. We have changed a lot of things inside the club, had a lot of discussions looking forward and it’s not the time now – three days before a cup final – that I should talk about the league next season in August.”

The German reiterated that his focus was entirely on the making sure Chiefs win their first trophy since May 2015 and nothing more.
