How Chiefs Players Are Coping With Billiat Transfer Saga

Lebogang Manyama has become the first Kaizer Chiefs player to comment on the much-publicised Khama Billiat transfer saga.

With a little over a week before the window shuts on September 2, talks that the Zimbabwean striker could very well return to his old club, Mamelodi Sundowns, has persisted, even after a strongly worded statement from Amakhosi rebuffing an exit.

Manyama, speaking on Thursday morning during a media open day, opened up about how he and the rest of the players have been dealing with the speculation.

As quoted on Kick-Off.com, he said: “I think Khama is a big boy…he’s one of the top players in the country, and whether he stays or leaves, probably next year he’ll have the same thing again – it happens to every top player,” said Manyama.

The Siya crew reported last week that Sundowns have tabled a record-breaking Premier Soccer League bid of around R15-million for Billiat’s service.

“But he’s been here. He’s been working hard and we haven’t showed any emotion or put our focus to any of the talk. We expect that from players like him every year. So, he’s still here and we’re making sure that we support him in every way and that he stays positive in everything that he does, so he can obviously come back and help the team. We need Khama. Every team he plays in, he’s a very much important player just as anyone else.”

Billiat is yet to make an appearance for Chiefs so far this season due to a slight knock, according to coach Ernst Middendorp, who said he expected him to be available against SuperSport United on Saturday at FNB Stadium.
