Fani Madida, the former Kaizer Chiefs striker who still holds the record for the most league goals scored in a single season in SA football, has weighed in on the forwards several generations after him currently at Amakhosi.
The Glamour Boys are enjoying the lead at the top of the Absa Premiership table and it has also been thanks to their trio of attackers – Khama Billiat, new boy Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro, who has found form again after the club very nearly cut ties with him during the off season.
“I think at the moment they are one of the trickiest in the league because you don’t know what they will do next,” Madida told the Siya crew.
“Billiat might dribble and try to take shots on goal, but with his combination with Nurkovic and Castro, they are becoming formidable. They score goals from nothing – but the PSL defenders are becoming cleverer as well. So that means upping their game in terms of their game intelligence.”
But Madida doesn’t believe they will come anywhere close to his record of 28 goals scored during the 1991 league campaign.
“For now I think they can get up to 18 goals, but not more than that. The fact is defenders are smarter and quicker now. They outthink you at times, especially if your midfielders are not creative enough,” said Madida.
