Kaizer Chiefs are expected to release another player in the coming months, a goalkeeper whose contract is coming to an end.
Brylon Petersen was handed a one-year deal at the end of June last year and it was understood the decision was taken to have him as an emergency goalkeeper ahead of the Premier Soccer League restart in the bio-bubble.
With Itumeleng Khune not match fit, Petersen and Bruce Bvuma would be seen as cover for then first-choice Daniel Akpeyi under Ernst Middendorp last season.
The Siya crew now understands that the arrival of Brandon Petersen, signed at the start of the current campaign but not registered due to the FIFA ban, the younger Petersen (not related) could be allowed to leave Naturena.
Since joining Amakhosi in 2016, Petersen has never made a top-flight debut as his appearances have only come in the reserve league.
He has, however, made the matchday squad on a few occasions.
Chiefs are going to have a busy off season with coach Gavin Hunt, should he still be at the helm, hoping for reinforcements.
If indeed Petersen does not have his contract renewed and does not move on to another club, then he has something to fall back on.
He is a qualified engineer having attained his BSc degree in mechanical engineering at Wits University earlier this year and has in the past admitted that juggling his studies and playing football has not been easy.
