The Story Of Chiefs’ New Signing…

From a small town in Zambia to the training fields of Naturena in South Africa, Lazarous Kambole is looking to make an impression after the biggest move in his football career…
The 25-year-old forward joined the Glamour Boys from ZESCO United last month, and after getting his career underway in Johannesburg last week, and now he’s spoken about his road from the Copperbelt Province to Gauteng as he attempts to leave his mark in a new country following a switch thought to be worth around R3m.
Kambole, who comes from Chingola in Zambia, always thought he could make it as a professional footballer, though it wasn’t what his parents wanted for him... He explained how his career got off the ground by telling Chiefs’ official website, “I knew I had potential in football. Each time I played I scored many goals. And, spectators would tell me I can become great, but my parents wanted me to follow education so I did not take football that seriously at the beginning because I was focused on my education.
“Later, at the age of about 13, I went to stay with my brother, Promise, in Kitwe. He realised I loved soccer and began to monitor my performances. He bought me my first pair of boots and gave me a lot of encouragement. That was the first motivation for me. I started to increase my efforts playing for Mindolo Younsters FC, while I was still going to Mamamonti Basic School.
“After I established myself as a soccer player in Kitwe, I went with my brother to stay in Chililabombwe. When I was in Grade 10, I joined an academy called Malalo Sport and shortly after writing my Grade 12 final exam, I joined a Division 1 side called Konkola Mine Police. I played there for two years and we were promoted to Super Division. I ended up as the top goalscorer in the league with 18 goals.”
After that it was on to Konkola Blades, where things really took off for the forward, and he explained how that led to him joining ZESCO, saying, “I was happy to accept the offer as it was a valuable opportunity to play for a well-established team. I continued scoring regularly about six months into my stint, my performance for Blades in a league decider against Nkana FC, in which I scored the only goal of the match, attracted the attention of ZESCO United. It was then that ZESCO recruited me and I didn’t hesitate to join them. It was a big career move for me.
Giving a bit more insight about himself as a person, Kambole describes himself as ‘a God-fearing person’, adding, “I am a very humble person. I listen and take advice. I don’t judge people by their colour, creed or character. I am always open to new ideas…
“I live a quiet life. It is rare to find me roaming the streets… I have two friends who just like me are spiritual. We go to church together and spend lots of time at home sharing the gospel.”
Kambole’s contract with Chiefs officially gets underway today after he penned a three-year deal last month.
