Following news that Willard Katsande is expected to leave Kaizer Chiefs, the club’s latest arrival has already started training at Naturena.
The Siya crew reported on Friday that Cole Alexander is understood to have put pen to paper after he was handed his clearance by Odisha FC in the Indian Premier League, a club where he worked with current Amakhosi coach Stuart Baxter.
Cole is almost seen as a direct replacement for Katsande, the 35-year-old whose contract expired at the end of the month but had signed a short-term deal to guarantee that he was available for the CAF Champions League final two weekends ago.
According to sources at the club, Cole, 32, reported for training and has been introduced to his new teammates, with an announcement to confirm his signing expected in the coming days.
Chiefs have finally captured his signature seven years after Baxter, in his first spell with the club, had identified him as a target.
There was an uproar on social media over the imminent arrival of a player that’s over 30 given the supporters had marched to the headquarters and asked for an overhaul of the squad and new faces from the youth academy.
But it would appear Baxter still wants experience mixed with youth, especially now that Katsande, who spent at decade at Amakhosi, is leaving.
