A former Kaizer Chiefs striker has given his thoughts on the type of striker Amakhosi need next season to improve their form in front of goal.
At the moment, Amakhosi's top scoring striker is veteran forward Bernard Parker, who has scored four times this season. Lazarous Kambole, who was placed on the transfer list before the start of the season, has one goal to his name. The Zambian is the second highest scoring striker at Chiefs this season, while Leonardo Castro and Samir Nurkovic are yet to find the back of the net.
This should be a major concern for Amakhosi coach Stuart Baxter, who has come under pressure for the team's results this season.
Mphela feels Chiefs are in serious need of a striker, but none in the local market are consistent enough. He says they may need to consider looking abroad to find someone who can be as deadly as Mamelodi Sundowns' Namibian international, Peter Shalulile.
"I think Chiefs need someone like Shalulile, who will come in and score goals for fun. In the local market, I don't think there are strikers who are consistent enough," Mphela told Soccer Laduma.
"Going abroad is an option, but they shouldn't just bring anyone for the sake of it. They need quality, they to go back to the days of getting strikers like Collins Mbesuma and Knowledge Musona."
Chiefs are yet to find the back of the net in 2022, a clear sign that they are in need of more fire power in the final third. The Siya crew has reported of their interest in Royal AM striker Victor Letsoalo, but it remains to be seen if they make a move in the next transfer window.
