Chiefs ‘Continue To Look For Suitable Candidates’

Kaizer Motaung says that ‘the process of making changes does not stop’ after making five new signings, insisting that Kaizer Chiefs are always going to ‘look for suitable candidates’.

The Glamour Boys head into today’s Absa Premiership opener knowing that it’s been five years since they last won their first league game in a season – the last time was 2014/15 – and Motaung will be eager to see Ernst Middendorp’s side bring that run to an end in Makhulong.

Chiefs take on Highlands Park at 15h00 this afternoon after watching the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits pick up victories yesterday, and three points are needed in order to take some of the pressure of their German coach.

Motaung, who is hoping for an end to their trophy drought as they prepare to celebrate their 50th birthday, has pleaded for patience from the Amakhosi faithful as their 2019/20 gets underway.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the chairman said, “As Kaizer Chiefs, we have made notable changes to the playing personnel by releasing ten players and onboarding five new players. We have also added youngsters from our development structures, including Given Thibedi, Bontle Molefe and Njabulo Blom towards the end of the previous season.

“The process of making changes does not stop – it is ongoing and we always continue to look for suitable candidates for all identified departments. We continue to appeal for patience with the supporters as the process takes time and needs to done with great care.

“As we said at the end of last season, the rebuilding process for the 2019/20 season and beyond is aimed at ensuring that we restore this iconic institution to where it rightfully belongs – at the summit of South African football.”

Chiefs picked up four points from a possible six against Highlands last season, most recently beating them 3-2 back in March.
