Fresh Drama For Kaizer Chiefs!

There was drama galore for Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday afternoon, and the celebrations were massive, but at what cost was their win in Cape Town?

Take a look at the drama for Kaizer Chiefs in the gallery above!

Ernst Middendorp's side are making a habit of coming from behind to get a result this season having fought back on numerous occasions in recent months, and today was no different as they battled to level up against Cape Town City having gone 1-0 down to a beauty from Kermit Erasmus.

Just like in their Absa Premiership encounter in August, Chiefs left it late to equalise against the Citizens - this time it was Samir Nurkovic with the leveller - before holding their nerve in a penalty shootout to make sure they progressed into the next round of this year's Telkom Knockout competition.

Daniel Cardoso, who missed a penalty in normal time, stepped up in the shootout and showed his mental strength by slotting home, with Daniel Akpeyi putting in another good performance as he made vital saves throughout the course of the day and then finally in the shootout itself.

While the main aim of progressing was achieved, Middendorp will now be sweating on the fitness of both Kearyn Baccus and Bernard Parker, both of whom had to be stretchered off during the game and may now be doubtful for their next fixture.

It's bad news for the German after he only recently welcomed back Nurkovic, George Maluleka and Reeve Frosler, while Itumeleng Khune is out for at least the next couple of weeks after picking up a groin injury before the international break.

He will be pleased that his three returning stars made it through the tie unscathed though, while Akpeyi avoided a booking and will now be available for selection in the crunch game with Mamelodi Sundowns next week.
