Why Chiefs’ Defender Will Miss Next Season’s Opener

The 2019/20 season hasn’t even gotten underway yet, but Kaizer Chiefs know that one of their players won’t be available for selection on the opening day…
Chiefs had four of their players on the brink of a suspension when they went into the Nedbank Cup final against TS Galaxy, meaning that all of them would have missed the first game of next season if they’d picked up another yellow card.
The only one who did, however, was young Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, meaning that he will not be able to take part in Chiefs’ initial game of the season, and while usually there may be a chance of missing an MTN8 game, their failure to qualify means that it will be an Absa Premiership game that he misses.
While Ntiya-Ntiya will be injured, Ernst Middendorp – who remains as head coach for now – will be eager to try and see the likes of Happy Mashiane return to action following his long-term injury, with the club hoping to see less injuries in the upcoming campaign than they had to deal with in 2018/19.
Chiefs brought their season to a close this week, and will now only return next month in the build-up for the next campaign.
