Chiefs’ Celtic Defeat: 'Some Struggled A Bit…'
It was a mixed bag for Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend, and their head coach has admitted that some of his players ‘struggled a bit’ during the international break.

The Glamour Boys had a busy weekend as they faced Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup – a game they won 4-2 – before travelling to the Free State for the Macufe Cup where they were defeated 2-0 by Bloemfontein Celtic.
A number of different Chiefs players were on show in the two games, some of whom featured in both, and Ernst Middendorp believes that he now has a better idea of the pool of players that he is working with at Naturena for the season ahead.
Speaking about the loss to Celtic in Bloemfontein, the German coach said, “The result was not good… We achieved a lot in this match, we played with mostly the players that have not played in four months. Some came through with good performances and some struggled a bit, but it is all good.
“We have seen a pool of players that will be on standby and ready when called upon to do the job.”
It remains to be seen whether any of the fringe players selected for the Macufe Cup have done enough to put up their hands for a more regular place in Middendorp’s plans for the current Absa Premiership table-toppers, though it will be interesting to see the 18-man squad selected for this weekend’s crucial Telkom Knockout clash against Cape Town City.
