A Kaizer Chiefs target has returned to his club in Europe for pre-season, with word reaching the Siya crew that the Soweto giants have not thrown in the towel in their pursuit of the highly-rated midfielder.
Thabo Cele was in South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal, most recently and is understood to have had a meeting with Chiefs’ sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr, as the Soweto giants looked to make another approach for the KZN academy product
Indications are that Amakhosi tabled an offer of €100 000 (±R1.68m) to RKS Radomiak for Cele, but the Polish club turned it down as it is believed that the club’s new coach Mariusz Lewandowski has the former SA U23 international in his plans for next season.
“Thabo has done well that side. The club brought in a new coach (in April) on board. They were going to release Thabo, but now that he has done well under the new coach, things have changed,” a source close to the player told the Siya crew in the latest edition of Soccer Laduma.
“They possibly want to look to keep him for next season. But that does not mean the deal is completely closed yet. It’s about Thabo making a decision on what the best (option) is for his future and where he wants to play. That’s where we are at.”
The 25-year-old midfielder was in action as Radomiak suffered a 1-0 defeat against Gornik Leczna in a friendly encounter at the weekend.
Chiefs’ new coach Arthur Zwane is said to be pushing for the Glamour Boys to sign Cele ahead of the 2022/23 season, as he is a big fan of the player.
