Second Time Lucky For Middendorp? ‘I’m Not Ruling Out Chiefs In Title Race’

Kaizer Chiefs are likely to complete a double of Absa Premiership victories over SuperSport United this season, according to former Amakhosi midfielder Ntokozo Sikhakhane. 

In his first match in charge for Chiefs, on his return to the club in December for a second stint, head coach Ernst Middendorp guided the Soweto giants to a victory over Matsatsantsa, ironically at the Mbombela Stadium.

With the two teams going back to the Mbombela Stadium for their second-round match tonight, Sikhakhane believes that Middendorp’s team will again emerge as winners over Kaitano Tembo’s side. 

“It’s going to be a difficult game because both teams’ recent results have been impressive. Chiefs have also been doing well in the Nedbank Cup. I’m not ruling out Chiefs in the title race, it’s early to do that. Chiefs are still in the race and SuperSport are still in it. Each and every game is important for all the teams to collect the points. Each one of the remaining seven games should be treated like a cup final. The game is going to be tough but I will give it to Chiefs to win,” Sikhakhane told the Siya crew.

“SuperSport won’t have enough support while for Chiefs everywhere they go they get a lot of support. Mpumalanga people always support football. The game is on a Friday and it’s payday for some people, the stadium should be packed. You must understand that a win for Chiefs will mean that they increase their chances of moving further up on the log and they won’t want to let that opportunity slip. They will want to do it for the supporters, management, as well as the community and the municipality of Mbombela. Although it will be a tough game, I don’t see SuperSport winning against Chiefs. Chiefs will go to the game with their confidence up as they didn’t concede a goal in their last game,” added the KwaMashu-born former midfielder.
