It was revealed earlier this week that table-toppers, Kaizer Chiefs, had had one of their games postponed, but it turns out it wasn’t actually for the Amakhosi’s benefit…
Chiefs were due to face Chippa United on November 5 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in their first league encounter of the season, however it was confirmed on Thursday that while the stadium and kickoff time (19h30) remained the same, it had been moved a day later to November 6.
Ernst Middendorp and The Glamour Boys will no doubt have welcomed the news given the fact that it gives them extra time to recover from the Soweto Derby that takes place against Orlando Pirates just a few days before, but the decision was actually made in order for Chippa United to get the required time off.
A statement on the club’s official website said, “The Absa Premiership fixture between hosts Chippa United and visitors Kaizer Chiefs has been moved from the original fixture date of Tuesday, 5th November to Wednesday, 6th November.
“The change was necessitated by the Telkom Knockout Cup match that Chippa are playing against Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday, 3rd November. Teams require 72hrs between their fixtures.”
Chiefs have two big games to circumnavigate before taking on the Chilli Boys though, with clashes against Masandawana and Pirates coming up in the next seven days.
