Kaizer Chiefs

Possible Chiefs Starting XI VS Wydad

Kaizer Chiefs have taken a chartered flight to Burkina Faso, where they will do duty against Moroccan outfit Wydad Casablanca on neutral ground on Sunday. We take a look at how Amakhosi could line up for the encounter.

Chiefs kicked off their group C campaign with a goalless draw against Guinean outfit Horoya at FNB Stadium five days ago and will be looking to go one better against a tough Wydad side, who reached the semi-finals of the competition last season.

Chiefs have revealed their traveling squad for the encounter, with coach Gavin Hunt largely relying on the tried and tested for at the clash at 4 August Stadium in Ouagadougou.

Goalkeeper: Itumeleng Khune

Chiefs have traveled with just two goalkeepers in Khune and Daniel Akpeyi. However the former is expected to rack the nod ahead of his Nigerian counterpart thanks to his vast experience on the African continent having played in Ouagadougou with Bafana Bafana before.

Defenders: Reeve Frosler, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Siyabonga Ngezana, Anthony Agay

This was Hunt’s last back four in Chiefs’ goalless draw against Horoya and it is expected to remain the same, although it remains to be seen whether Daniel Cardoso is slotted into a central defensive role, after being left out the last time out.

Midfielders: Willard Katsande, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Kearyn Baccus

We saw a surprise return to the fold for Willard Katsande in the last matchday squad. The Zimbabwean had a stellar match against Horoya and is expected to retain his place, partnered by Baccus and Ngcobo.

Attackers: Samir Nurković, Bernard Parker, Leonardo Castro

As seen in the last match, Hunt has opted for the experienced trio of Parker,Nurkovic and Castro, which is another area of the field expected to remain unchanged, while we could see Manyama or Kambole feature off the bench.
