What Pleased Chiefs’ Middendorp v Arrows…

Kaizer Chiefs secured three points that took them 10 points clear of Mamelodi Sundowns once again over the weekend, but one particular aspect of their performance pleased Ernst Middendorp.

Lebogang Manyama struck home with a sweet volley in the dying moments of Chiefs’ game against Golden Arrows over the weekend, making sure the Glamour Boys went home with three points rather than one after securing a 1-0 victory.

The result means that Middendorp’s side remain very much in the driving seat as the business end of the 2019/20 Absa Premiership season approaches, and he was pleased with the patience that his team showed in order to push through and get the result.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the German said, “We spoke about patience at half-time… We have seen with the other teams as well; you cannot predict how they’ll approach us. The other day we played Cape Town City and noticed their change of formation compared to when they play other teams. We are well aware of these situations.

“We knew we had to manage the game until the end, I am happy we were patient. The match was not eye-catching, but the result is what we wanted.

“Credit to Arrows – they are an organised side. They are a structured side hence we had to be patient in our approach. The goal is as a result of patience. These are aspects that will come handy at this stage of the league.”

Next up for Chiefs is a clash with Royal Eagles in the Nedbank Cup on February 8, and it may give Middendorp a chance to change things up in his team as they continue to push for the big prize – the league title.
