Inside Chiefs: Doors Opened As Amakhosi Prepare
Kaizer Chiefs opened their doors to the media on Thursday as they prepare to face SuperSport United, with both Itumeleng Khune and Khama Billiat lacing up their boots.
The club’s captain, Khune, hasn’t featured since picking up a shoulder injury last season, but Ernst Middendorp has insisted that he’s on the verge of being available for selection once again. Chiefs posted footage of him in training this week, and the Amakhosi faithful will be eager to see him return as soon as possible.
Billiat, meanwhile, has been the subject of plenty of transfer speculation, but missed the 3-2 win over Highlands Park and 1-0 victory v Black Leopards with a minor injury. Now though, with a big game against Matsatsantsa this weekend, he’s expected to be in contention for a place in Middendorp’s squad.
Meanwhile, James Kotei and Yagan Sasman – who are still awaiting their Amakhosi debuts – were also seen training at Naturena in the build-up to this weekend’s game, though it remains to be seen if either will make it into the matchday squad for the clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday night.
Chiefs are currently enjoying their best start to an Absa Premiership campaign since 2014/15, and they’ll be hoping to keep that up as they aim to retain their 100% record up against SuperSport in Soweto.
