Chiefs Identify Vries Replacement?

With Virgil Vries’ exit having been confirmed by Kaizer Chiefs this week, the Siya crew have been informed that they have already identified a possible replacement.

The Glamour Boys announced on Wednesday morning that Vries had agreed to a mutual termination of his contract at Naturena after less than a year at the club, and he is now a free agent looking for the next step in his career.

Though they have Itumeleng Khune, Daniel Akpeyi, Bruce Bvuma, Brylon Petersen and Karabo Molefe on their books already, the crew has been informed that the club have earmarked young Giovanni Idi as a potential new signing as they look to possibly bolster their goalkeeping ranks even further.

Idi, a South African youth international, is just 19-years-old, but already has a handful of senior appearances under his belt having played for University of Pretoria in the National First Division this season since making the step up into the professional ranks.

The teenager won the Golden Glove Award at last year’s Varsity Football tournament before landing a pro deal with Tuks, and he will no doubt be hoping to continue moving through the tiers as he seeks to make a name for himself in the Absa Premiership.

Siya sources have suggested that Chiefs may well be interested in the youngster, especially as they keep one eye on the future of the club going forward.
