Kaizer Chiefs fans will have to wait and see how strong their starting XI is against Mamelodi Sundowns, with the club confirming that two key players are a doubt for the tie…
The Glamour Boys take on Masandawana in the game of the weekend at 15h30 today, with both clubs aiming to end their Sunday sitting pretty on top of the Absa Premiership table.
Ernst Middendorp and Pitso Mosimane have been involved in an intriguing back and forth over the last couple of weeks that started prior to Chiefs’ 4-2 Shell Helix Ultra Cup win over the Brazilians, and it will all culminate in today’s competitive fixture after Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
Chiefs may not be at full strength though, with the club confirming on their official website today that both Bernard Parker and Kearyn Baccus ‘are doubtful starters due to an assortment of niggles’, and it is not expected that either of them will make it into the German’s starting XI.
The pair both picked up injuries in the Telkom Knockout victory over Cape Town City, and while their absence will be felt by Chiefs if they don’t make it, Middendorp is adamant that they have enough cover.
He told the club’s site, “If Parker and Baccus don’t make it on time to play a part this afternoon, we have a plan for that… We will have equally capable players who will plug in the positions. The formation and approach will remain constant because every player in the squad is equipped and understands the philosophy. So, we are set and ready.”
Meanwhile, both Itumeleng Khune and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo remain out of contention as they continue their recovery from groin and Achilles injuries respectively, and are not being considered for selection for today’s game.
