Kaizer Chiefs’ January has been shaken up considerably with news that their game against Mamelodi Sundowns has been postponed by more than two months.
The Amakhosi confirmed on Wednesday that their clash against Bidvest Wits in January had been moved to March due to the Clever Boys’ commitments in the CAF Confederation Cup, and it has now been revealed that their match with Sundowns, due for February 1, has also been affected.
With CAF recently rearranging a number of fixtures in their inter-club competitions, revision to the Absa Premiership fixture list were always expected, and Sundowns’ CAF Champions League arrangements have seen their encounter with Chiefs moved to April.
A statement from the Glamour Boys on their official website this week read, “The Premier Soccer League announced date changes for Kaizer Chiefs’ Absa Premiership fixtures involving Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits. The revision of the fixtures is prompted by the participations of Sundowns and Wits in the CAF inter-club competitions.
“Chiefs were initially scheduled to host Bidvest Wits on the 21st January 2020 at 19:30. The game is now rescheduled to take place on Wednesday, 18th March, at 19:30 at FNB Stadium.
“Similarly, the fixture between Chiefs and Sundowns which was originally dated 1st February 2020, kicking off at 15:30 is now moved to Wednesday, 15th April. The match will take place at FNB Stadium kicking off at 19:30.
“The club will announce the match logistics including ticketing information in due course.”
Chiefs’ final game of 2019 sees them face Maritzburg United on December 22 as they look to finish with as many points as possible on top of the table.
