Chiefs Legends Remember Fallen Comrade

Kaizer Chiefs sadly lost another soldier last week after it was confirmed that Chris ‘Rollaway’ Ndlovu had passed on, but his former teammates are left with fond memories…

Ndlovu, who represented his country during the days of apartheid for an SA Black XI, was known for his speed, stamina and strength, but tragically passed away as repercussions of a mild stroke that he had suffered recently.

‘Rollaway’ played for Pimville United Brothers – or PUBS as they were often known – during his playing days, but made a real name for himself during the 1970s alongside players such as Teenage Dladla, Ace Ntsoelengoe and Banks Setlhodi.

His former teammates had nothing but positive things to say about the defender, with Setlhodi, Jerry Sadike and Johannes Kholoane all giving their memories to Chiefs’ official website this week.

Joseph ‘Banks’ Setlhodi
Our manager Ewert Nene convinced him to join Chiefs… We actually thought that Chris would join Pirates, like the others. But Ewert was amazing, he got things done and convinced Chris to join Chiefs instead.”

Jerry Sadike
“Chris was incredibly fast… He wasn’t the most skilful, like some other Chiefs players, like Ace Ntsoelengoe or Kaizer Motaung. But he was like a machine, he could run the whole day.”

Johannes ‘Big Boy’ Kholoane
“Chris was as strong as an ox. He played to the whistle… He would outrun opponents, be found joining the attack and, accordingly, being back in defence when needed. He only stopped running when the referee blew the whistle at the end of 90 minutes.”
