Chiefs Star Reveals ‘Crazy’ World Cup Dream
Kaizer Chiefs’ Khama Billiat has spoken about his ‘crazy’ World Cup dream following his heroics in Zimbabwe after he shrugged off an Amakhosi injury to save the day.
Billiat missed the first leg of Zimbabwe’s clash with Somalia after sustaining a pelvic injury against Cape Town City that the club said would require ‘10 and 14 days to recover’ – a week later he was on a plane to Harare after the Warriors were shocked in the first leg with a 1-0 defeat in their first World Cup qualifying game.
The 29-year-old landed and was straight into Joey Antipas’ starting XI despite his injury concerns, popping up in the dying moments of the game to score the goal that made sure they progressed with a 3-2 aggregate win.
Now, as they wait to see who they will face in the second round of qualifiers, he has revealed his ambitions of reaching the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and was quoted by The Herald as saying, “We want to play World Cup, I know it sounds crazy but we want to do the crazy things, we want to be the first generation to take the nation to the World Cup and we do believe it can happen.
“As long as we are willing to work harder than the opposition, everything is possible, it is not about what the opponent has but the amount of eff ort you put.”
The attacker is now back in South Africa and set to return to Naturena as Middendorp prepares his troops to face Polokwane City this weekend.
