The suspension of the Premier Soccer League is causing mayhem in South African football after the league was called off indefinitely, but it could offer a lifeline to one Kaizer Chiefs star.
Joseph Molangoane, who recently celebrated his 32nd birthday, is due to see his current contract with the Glamour Boys expire at the end of the season, but he’s been unable to fight for a new deal as he recovers from serious injury.
The former Orlando Pirates midfielder last played for Chiefs back in April – almost a year ago now – as he fights to return to Ernst Middendorp’s side before the season comes to an end, but with only eight games left he’s running out of time.
At least for ‘Tight’, the suspension of the league means that the season could be extended until the end of June in order to get the games done, which would give him a bit more time to get back to full fitness and potentially back into the German’s matchday squad before the 2019/20 campaign comes to an end.
Over the last season and a half, Molangoane has played just one Absa Premiership game for the Glamour Boys following a horrendous injury back in August 2018, but was handed a new one-year contract just under a year ago.
Now, with just a few months left to save his Chiefs career, the midfielder may well welcome the bit of extra time he could have been given.
