Middendorp Drops The Hammer, Drops Big Names To Reserves
Word reaching the Siya crew is that Ernst Middendorp is making some big decisions at Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the Nedbank Cup final – sending a group of players down to the reserves.
It is expected that there will be a number of changes at Naturena in 2019/20 as the club looks to challenge for the league title once more after a disappointing current campaign, and the German’s latest decision could have suggested who may be on their way out.
According to Siya sources, the likes of Hendrick Ekstein, Dumsani Zuma, Siphelele Ntshangase, Bhongolethu Jayiya and Khotso Malope have all been sent to train with Chiefs’ Multichoice Diski Challenge game as the rest of the squad prepare to face Chippa United on Saturday night.
While Ekstein’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season it now looks increasingly likely that he could be on his way out of the club, while the others all have deals going into at least next season and it is as yet unknown as to why they are not part of the senior squad at this stage.
It remains to be seen whether the players will spend the rest of the 2018/19 season with the reserves or will return to the senior team at some point, however, the crew received no response from Chiefs when they were contacted for comment on the matter.
