Lorenzo Gordinho has issued an emotional goodbye to Kaizer Chiefs after he made the decision to leave the club and sign elsewhere in the Absa Premiership…
The Glamour Boys announced on Tuesday that the 25-year-old was on his way out of Naturena after almost a decade of service in the gold and black, revealing that he has penned a two-and-a-half-year deal with league rivals, Bidvest Wits.
Gordinho has fallen out of favour since his return from a loan spell with Bloemfontein Celtic, with Ernst Middendorp rather opting for Daniel Cardoso and Erick Mathoho as his first-choice central defenders.
Now, as he draws a line under his time with Amakhosi, the centre back has spoken fondly of his years at the club as he eyes a new life with the Clever Boys.
Speaking to the club’s official website after they confirmed his move to Wits, the defender said, “I want to thank everybody at Kaizer Chiefs… The Chairman, the Motaung family, all the coaches, the staff. Everybody at the club played a role in my growth as a player and as a person.
“I will never forget the friendships I developed with people at the club’s various levels. I will take all that I’ve learnt at Kaizer Chiefs to the next chapter in my playing career.”
Wits have Buhle Mkhwanazi suspended tonight for their league clash against Bloemfontein Celtic, however it remains to be seen how long Gordinho will have to wait for his Wits debut this season.
