There’s a big boost for Kaizer Chiefs as they go into to this weekend’s crunch game with Cape Town City after four major players were given the all clear to return to action.
The Glamour Boys, who are currently top of the Absa Premiership table, take on the Citizens on Saturday afternoon in arguably the biggest game in the first round of Telkom Knockout fixtures, and Ernst Middendorp had some good news as they opened their doors at Naturena today.
Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, George Maluleka, Reeve Frosler and Samir Nurkovic were all missing in action over the weekend for the Shell Helix Ultra Cup and Macufe Cup friendlies, and Middendorp has explained that it was a decision that was made alongside the Amakhosi’s medical team.
Speaking to the media earlier today, the German explained the situation, saying, “We had a long chat on Friday‚ late afternoon in FNB to say‚ ‘How advisable is it to bring George‚ to play Reeve‚ to use Samir‚ already just to give you three, and Ntiya-Ntiya four?’
“The medical department decided in the end to say, ‘Ok, it is a risk’. The risk is probably too much. If they can get another four‚ five days’ training‚ starting now‚ we can have an input in terms of loading, in terms of how they are progressing…
“They trained yesterday and did it today, meaning that all these four players I mentioned just now – Ntiya-Ntiya, George, Samir and Reeve – will be available for selection on Saturday.”
Frosler and Maluleka have both missed just one game during Chiefs’ march to the top of the Absa Premiership, while Nurkovic had played a major role for his new employers before missing the last two games due to injury.
