Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a major injury blow to a key player as they prepare for their title run-in at the end of the 2019/20 Absa Premiership season…
Captain, Willard Katsande, was unable to complete the 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates after picking up an injury in the second half against the Buccaneers, and it has now been confirmed that he is in a brace and faces a spell on the sidelines as he recovers.
It remains to be seen how long Katsande will face on the sidelines as he recovers from his knee problem, however their lack of Nedbank Cup action and the upcoming international break could mean that he misses a minimal amount of games in their title push.
A statement on the club’s official website read, “Kaizer Chiefs medical department’s injury update indicates that tough-tackling midfielder Willard Katsande has hurt the ligament in the inner part of his knee.
“Katsande got hurt in the 75th minute of the pulsating victory over arch-rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday, 29 February. He was replaced by Kenyan International, Akumu Agay.”
Meanwhile, the club’s physiotherapist, Dave Milner, added, “Katsande is currently in a brace… He had a scan and will see the specialist this week to determine the extent of the injury.”
Chiefs have just two games in the next two weeks – firstly against AmaZulu and then against Bidvest Wits – giving Katsande some time to return.
