He’s not well into the last six months of his contract with Kaizer Chiefs, but there’s been no news on whether this Amakhosi stopper will remain at the club next season.
Brylon Petersen has been back at Chiefs since re-joining the club in November, but – despite making the matchday squad – is still searching for his first-team debut in Amakhosi colours in technically his second stint.
The 24-year-old is not your average footballer as he balances life as a professional player and his engineering degree, and now he is left to weigh up his options as he waits to see whether he has a future at Naturena or not.
As reported in the latest issue of Soccer Laduma, it is thought that there could be an opportunity or two overseas for the former Wits University man, though it remains to be seen what lies ahead as he waits to find out his Amakhosi future.
Chiefs currently have Itumeleng Khun, Daniel Akpeyi, Bruce Bvuma, Bontle Molefe and Petersen in their goalkeeping department under Lee Baxter, and there may be decisions made on the way forward before the 2019/20 campaign comes to an end.
With Khune and Akpeyi turning 33 and 34 respectively this season, Chiefs have to look into the future of their goalkeeping department, and Petersen – at his age - could be seen as a goalkeeper that could battle it out with Bruce Bvuma for that number one spot in years to come.
