Kaizer Chiefs legend and former goalkeeper Joseph ‘Banks’ Setlhodi has sent an inspiring message to Bruce Bvuma as the goalkeeper is expected to make his first start of the season this evening against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.
Against Bloemfontein Celtic at the weekend, Bvuma came on as a substitute to replace Daniel Akpeyi who had been forced out owing to an injury.
Chiefs have confirmed that Akpeyi has still not recovered, while Itumeleng Khune is still on the club’s injury list.
“No, no, no it’s a good thing for Bvuma, that’s a blessing in disguise for him. It’s his chance to prove himself and to prove that he belongs to Chiefs. Each and every player who is on the bench is wishing to get his chance. He is competing with two of the best goalkeepers in the league and he has been on the bench for long and waiting to prove that he belongs to Chiefs and to prove his point that he can do better than those two goalkeepers,” said Setlhodi, speaking to the Siya crew.
“He should compete and that is why I say it is a good thing for me that he will be getting a chance. This is the right time for him. I will tell you one thing; all of the great players were at one point on the bench at their clubs. I am talking even about the likes of Messi and Ronaldo and others. But when they got their chance, they proved that they belong in the starting elevens of their teams. He (Bvuma) must just have that confidence that he has been with the club for years,” the goalkeeping legend added.
