There could be even more good news for Kaizer Chiefs after they cruised past Mamelodi Sundowns to stay top of the Absa Premiership, with one of their stars taking a big step in his recovery...
Chiefs haven't had the best of luck on the injury front of late, but things do appear to be looking up with at least one player as Nkosingiphile Ngcobo moved closer to his return over the weekend.
Ngcobo, who hasn't played since picking up a serious Achilles injury back in March, has been in the process of going through his recovery and rehabilitation for the best part of 2019, but could soon be back in contention for a place in Ernst Middendorp's matchday squad.
Having been deemed fit enough to get back out on the field again, the South African youth international was handed a starting berth by Arthur Zwane for Chiefs' Multichoice Diski Challenge against Stellenbosch over the weekend, but was limited to just 30 minutes on the pitch.
It appeared that the MDC coach was under strict instructions to make sure that Ngcobo wasn't pushed too far as he continues his rehab, explaining that they are trying to 'manage him' as he draws closer to a return.
Speaking to SuperSport before the game, Zwane said, “It’s good for the young man, but he’s only going to be in the game for 30 minutes… As you know, he’s been out for a very long time so we’re trying to manage him. We’re looking forward to seeing him back and enjoying himself.”
It remains to be seen how much longer the 19-year-old midfielder will have to wait before he's considered fit enough to get into Middendorp's 18-man senior side or return to the starting XI for the first team, but the German will be delighted to see him getting minutes again after he was thrust into the limelight last season when he made his Absa Premiership debut aged just 18.
