Kaizer Chiefs are the top scorers in the Absa Premiership, have conceded the least goals and – unsurprisingly – have the best goal difference, but what’s their secret?

Amakhosi are flying high in the league this season having lost just one of their first 12 games of the campaign, and are currently on a seven-match winning streak that has seen them go 10 points clear at the top of the log.
Head coach, Ernst Middendorp, has explained that set-pieces are a big part of their game (as shown by their opening goals in the 4-0 demolition of Stellenbosch FC), and has praised his players for how they’ve adapted this season.
Speaking to Chiefs’ official website, the German said, “Our set pieces work is one of our strong points. We go into set-pieces with intensity. We have all the ingredients to be successful in set pieces – it’s a crucial element in modern football.
“Football is quite easy. Don’t concede and contribute to scoring. We play with passion and energy, and that’s what we need.”
Middendorp was also happy with the changes that were made during the game v Stellies, and also spoke of their current break in momentum, saying, “It’s expected for the substitutions to support the starting team. We try to give each and every player a consistent training programme. We do these things in training – what is requested and what needs to be done.

“The break is good when you have all of your players. It is an issue when other players are not available. We will prepare for the next match which is Bloemfontein Celtic on 7th December.”
Chiefs are currently enjoying their best league campaign since 2014/15, and need just eight more points to equal their total points tally from the entire 2018/19 season.
